BYD launches affordable EV Dolphin Surf in Europe
BYD is launching its cheapest electric vehicle, the Seagull, in Europe later this year. In Europe, it will be called the Dolphin Surf. The starting price in China is under $10,000, but in Europe, it will be around £20,000 ($26,000). The Dolphin Surf will include more safety technology and features compared to its Chinese counterpart. BYD’s executive vice president, Stella Li, claims it will offer “the best value” for customers. The vehicle has been a bestseller in China, surpassing even the Tesla Model Y in sales. In terms of specifications, the Seagull comes with two battery options that offer ranges of up to 252 miles. The interior has a simple design with modern technology, including a rotating infotainment screen. Due to its compact size, it has earned the nickname “Mini Lamborghini” because of its stylish design led by a former Lamborghini designer. BYD has already introduced the Seagull in several international markets, where it is known as the Dolphin Mini. The company expects significant growth in sales, projecting that it will increase from 83,000 last year to 186,000 in 2025. This pricing strategy is designed to remain competitive in the European market despite tariffs.
