Cafe in Holland, Michigan, closes after 15 months

A local café in Holland, Michigan, has closed after just 15 months of operation. The Spoon, which was located at 633 E. 24th St., supported the Gateway Mission, a nonprofit organization. Its last day of business was March 16. Gateway Mission announced the closure while they reconsider how to best use the space. They expressed sadness over the decision but highlighted the achievements of students from their culinary arts program. Many of these students have found success in the restaurant industry after gaining experience at The Spoon. The Spoon originally opened in October 2023 to provide breakfast and lunch. It aimed to generate revenue for Gateway Mission and offer training for students. Gateway Mission helps people facing homelessness, unemployment, and addiction. This closure comes after another café in Holland, the Good Earth Café, stopped operating earlier this month under new management.
