Caldwell County fire quickly contained after evacuation
On Saturday, a large outdoor fire broke out in Caldwell County, near Wilkes County, prompting an evacuation. The fire started around 2:30 p.m. on Caleb Lane, along Highway 268. Dry weather and strong winds helped the fire spread quickly. Firefighters worked for about six hours to bring the blaze under control. The fire burned between 45 to 60 acres before it was contained. Officials said the fire threatened several nearby structures, which led to the evacuation order. Authorities confirmed that this fire was not linked to another fire on Old Amhurst Road. Throughout the night and into Sunday, firefighting teams continued to monitor and extinguish hot spots. Multiple agencies responded to the incident, including local firefighting departments and emergency management teams. The North Carolina Forest Service and the US Forest Service also assisted in the efforts.
