California voters may support a Republican governor in 2026
A recent poll indicates that nearly 50% of California's likely voters are considering supporting a Republican candidate for governor in 2026. This comes amid rising dissatisfaction with issues like high gas prices, homelessness, and the overall cost of living. The survey, conducted by David Wolfson for 790 KABC radio, shows a growing frustration among California voters. Eighty-three percent of respondents believe that gas prices are too high. Seventy-three percent want full funding for anti-crime initiatives that have been stalled by Democratic leaders. Homelessness appears to be another significant concern, with 72% of voters seeing it as a crisis that has not been effectively managed by the Democrats. Many also critique how the state has handled energy costs and living expenses. On the Democratic side, former Vice President Kamala Harris leads the primary polls with 57% support. Former Representative Katie Porter is also in the race, promising a new approach to handling the state's issues. As voter dissatisfaction grows, analysts suggest Republicans may find new opportunities to gain support in California.
