Calls for tougher crossbow laws in Hertfordshire
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has been urged to act quickly on crossbow laws after a tragic incident last year. Triple murderer Kyle Clifford used a crossbow to kill his ex-girlfriend Louise Hunt and her sister Hannah Hunt in Hertfordshire. He also stabbed their mother to death. Former Conservative minister Sir John Hayes highlighted this case during Prime Minister's Questions. He emphasized that crossbows can be very dangerous. The previous government had been discussing new regulations for crossbows, but progress has stalled. Currently, it is illegal for anyone under 18 to buy a crossbow, and adults can purchase them without a license. However, there are no registration requirements. Sir John called for the government to provide clearer guidelines before more lives are lost. In response, Sir Keir acknowledged the seriousness of the issue. He agreed it was a shocking case and promised to update Sir John on what the government plans to do regarding crossbow regulations.
