A 100-day campaign to eliminate tuberculosis (TB) in the state has screened over 61 lakh people for the disease. The campaign ran from December 7 to March 17. It successfully identified 5,588 new TB cases from around 1.98 lakh individuals showing symptoms. The initiative aimed to find and treat TB patients by conducting home visits and setting up screening camps. It also sought to reduce stigma around the disease and ensure that patients receive proper care and nutrition. The campaign increased the testing rate for TB infections significantly. Task forces have been established to further reduce TB deaths. In 2023, many local areas in Kerala were recognized as TB-free. As of 2024, more areas joined this list, raising the total to 138 local governing bodies with TB-free status. The detailed report on the campaign will be released on March 24, coinciding with World TB Day. Health Minister Veena George will launch the observance virtually, with V.K. Prashant presiding over the event.
