Campaigners raise concerns over Labour's pylon plans for green energy in East Anglia
Campaigners are opposing Labour's plan for new pylons in East Anglia, which are needed to transport energy from offshore wind farms. The plan requires more than double the pylons and infrastructure compared to the last decade. The National Energy Systems Operator stated that Labour's goal to decarbonise the grid by 2030 is challenging but achievable. However, it will require reforms to the planning system for faster construction of new energy infrastructure. Energy Secretary Ed Miliband emphasized that Labour's clean energy policy may not increase costs for consumers and could lower bills in the long run. The new target is five years earlier than the previous goal set by the Conservatives.
