Canada Post gains authority to handle restricted firearms for gun buyback program in Canada
Canada Post can now store and transport restricted firearms under new federal regulations. This change supports the upcoming retail gun buyback program, which aims to remove and destroy restricted assault-style firearms. The regulations, effective from an order in council on October 16, allow for the removal of over 1,500 restricted firearm models. The buyback program is set to start this fall for retail stores, with individual buybacks planned for next year. The amnesty for owning these firearms has been extended until October 30, 2025. Canada Post has stated its employees will not participate in the buyback due to safety concerns.
