Canada voices concerns over reported Russian plot to target cargo planes to North America
Canada has raised concerns about a reported Russian plot to place incendiary devices on cargo planes heading to North America. This follows incidents in July where parcels exploded at logistics hubs in Europe, allegedly part of a test for a broader sabotage campaign.
Public Safety spokesperson Zarah Malik stated that Canada has communicated its concerns to Russia, emphasizing that any threat to Canadians is unacceptable. There is currently no imminent threat, but Canadian agencies are collaborating with international partners to enhance security.
Transport Canada and the U.S. Transportation Security Administration have increased air cargo screening in response to these developments. Polish authorities have arrested four individuals linked to the incidents, which are believed to involve Russian military intelligence targeting NATO countries.
