Canelo Alvarez thrives in less competitive super middleweight division
Canelo Alvarez is regarded as one of Mexico's greatest boxers. He has gained international fame and has been a champion in four different weight classes. He won the WBC and WBA 168-pound titles in 2020. Journalist Lalo Camarena recently shared his thoughts on Canelo's success. During an interview on the podcast "Un Round Mas," he suggested that Canelo has benefited from an easier era in the super middleweight division. He believes there are fewer strong opponents now compared to other weight classes, like lightweight and heavyweight. Camarena emphasized that the level of competition in those divisions is higher. He said it is not Canelo’s fault, but he has had more opportunities to shine as the super middleweight champion. This is the weight class where Canelo has defended his title the most. Canelo's next fight is scheduled for May 3 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He will be defending his super middleweight title. A win could lead to a match in September against another contender. Other possible opponents for him are expected to emerge by 2026.
