Cape Cod man indicted for mother's manslaughter
A man from Cape Cod has been indicted for the death of his mother last year. Thomas Hayes, 23, is facing charges of manslaughter and assault related to the incident involving his 71-year-old mother. The incident occurred on July 24, 2024, when police and emergency medical teams received a 911 call from Hayes. Upon arriving at the Sandwich home, responders found the woman lying on the floor of a second-floor bedroom, bleeding from a head injury. Hayes told the operator that he had pushed her and she fell. After being taken to the hospital, the woman was found to have suffered a broken neck. She died at Cape Cod Hospital on July 30, 2024. At the time of the incident, Hayes was on probation from Barnstable District Court. Following an investigation, Hayes was sentenced to one year in jail for violating his probation. He is expected to appear in Barnstable Superior Court at a later date.
