Capitals won't use load management for Ovechkin
Washington Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery has stated that he will not use load management for captain Alex Ovechkin as the Stanley Cup Playoffs approach. Ovechkin, who is 39 years old, is close to a significant milestone in his career. He is less than 10 goals away from tying and passing Wayne Gretzky’s record of 894 goals in the NHL. Last year, Ovechkin faced criticism after scoring only 8 goals in his first 43 games. However, he came back strong, finishing the season with over 30 goals. This year, he is performing well again, despite missing a month due to a broken fibula. The Capitals have already secured their place in the playoffs. They are currently the top team in both the Metropolitan Division and the Eastern Conference. During a news conference, Carbery confirmed that Ovechkin will play regularly and will not be resting on the sidelines. So far this season, Ovechkin has recorded 55 points, including 34 goals and 21 assists, in 51 games. He is now at 887 career goals and needs just 7 more to tie Gretzky's legendary mark.
