Car attack in Cardiff linked to Airbnb dispute
A shocking incident occurred in Cardiff, where a car drove into pedestrians after a dispute over an Airbnb rental. The event was captured on video, showing a black SUV speeding toward two men, Abdalrhman Ali and Ryan Jones, as they attempted to escape. The attack happened on Malefant Street, and both victims were hurt in the collision. After the Airbnb booking confusion, tensions escalated between the victims and two men already in the property, Johnathan Newbury and Elliott Fiteni. Newbury threatened the victims from a window and later chased them with Fiteni. The victims were warned by a woman about the potential danger prior to the attack. When the car approached, the men tried to run away but were struck by the SUV. Mr. Jones sustained injuries to his pelvis and foot, while Mr. Ali suffered injuries to his chest and ribs. Fortunately, their injuries were not life-threatening. In a trial, Newbury, aged 33, was convicted of causing grievous bodily harm and possessing a machete. Fiteni, also involved, was found not guilty of all charges. Newbury now faces a possible lengthy prison sentence, as the court evaluates whether he should be classified as a dangerous offender. Witnesses described a chaotic scene with shouts of aggression. The prosecutor emphasized the serious nature of Newbury's actions, indicating intent to cause harm.
