"Caravan" surpasses "Sholay" in ticket sales globally
A new Indian film, Caravan, has achieved a remarkable milestone by selling more tickets than iconic films such as Sholay. This film has gained immense popularity, especially in China, where it sold 8.8 crore tickets. It also sold 1.9 crore tickets in India upon its release. Caravan, released in 1971, was produced on a modest budget. It featured actors Jeetendra and Asha Parekh and was directed by Nasir Hussain. The film was a success in India, earning Rs 3.6 crore at the box office. However, its legacy grew in China, where it became the highest-grossing Indian film overseas. The total ticket sales for Caravan have reportedly reached 30 crore, surpassing the previous records set by films like Sholay in India and Awara in the Soviet Union. Notably, other popular films such as Dangal and RRR could not match Caravan's success in ticket sales from China. Caravan was a crime thriller inspired by the 1953 film Girl on the Run. It is also remembered for its hit songs, contributing to its lasting popularity. Following its success, actress Asha Parekh quickly became a much-loved star in Indian cinema.
