Cardiovascular disease significantly affects women worldwide
Cardiovascular disease is responsible for one in three female deaths globally, challenging the belief that heart issues mainly affect men. This was discussed at an event by the Hellenic Cardiological Society and others for International Women’s Day. Experts noted that heart disease impacts women of all ages, with increased risks during pregnancy and menopause. They recommended regular checkups, exercise, and a Mediterranean diet to lower mortality rates. The event also addressed gender disparities in cardiology. A study revealed that 65% of female cardiologists in Greece encounter career obstacles due to gender, and 59% experience workplace harassment.
