Care calls English Champions Cup victory "miraculous."
Danny Care, the scrum-half for Harlequins, believes it would be "miraculous" if an English team wins the Investec Champions Cup this season. He expressed this sentiment as Harlequins and four other Premiership clubs advance to the knockout stages of the competition. Among these clubs, only Northampton Saints secured a home draw for the round of 16. Harlequins will soon face key rivals, starting with Saracens on Saturday, followed by a match against Bath on March 29. After these fixtures, they will take on Leinster in Dublin on April 5. Last year, both Harlequins and Saints reached the semi-finals, which Care called "remarkable." Despite the challenges ahead, Care remains optimistic. "No-one gives us a chance, but we'll give it a crack," he said. He acknowledged the strength of French and Irish clubs in the tournament and noted that an English team's last victory was in the 2019-20 season. Since then, French teams have dominated the competition. Harlequins have never won the Champions Cup, while Saracens are the most successful English club with three titles. In the last-16 matches, Saracens will face Toulon, while Sale Sharks take on Toulouse. Leicester Tigers and Northampton Saints also have important matches ahead. Care, who has played for Harlequins for 20 years and has won two Premiership titles, plans to continue with the team next season. He hopes to help lift another trophy before he retires. "I would love to help the club lift another trophy...I’ll try my best to help these young lads reach their goals," he said.
