Caretaker charged after missing RI woman found safe
A 45-year-old woman named Linda DaLomba, who has autism, went missing for 70 hours. The search for her began last week when she disappeared during an outing with her caretaker, Roberta Gerard. Linda's family expressed their fear and anxiety during the ordeal. Gerard, 43, has been charged with abuse, felony neglect, and providing false information to the police. She did not enter a plea during her court appearance on Monday and was released on bail. Linda's family confronted Gerard outside of the court, asking why she took Linda. Linda was found in the back of an SUV on March 23 and was taken to Rhode Island Hospital. She appeared disoriented but was eating one of her favorite snacks. Her family said she relies on medication for seizures and has lived in group homes throughout her life. Initially, Gerard told police she lost track of Linda at a store, but later provided conflicting accounts. The investigation has now turned criminal, with assistance from the FBI. Police are looking into Linda's care during the time she was missing and whether anyone else may be involved. The Canuto family thanked the community and authorities for their support. They were relieved to hear that Linda was found safe and alive, expressing their gratitude for the help they received during the search.
