Caribbean wave may develop into tropical storm as Louisiana braces for thunderstorms
A tropical wave in the Caribbean Sea has a high chance of developing into a tropical depression or storm by the end of the week, according to the National Hurricane Center. Currently, there is a 40% chance of formation in the next two days and an 80% chance within the week. Southeast Louisiana is preparing for thunderstorms from the remnants of Rafael, which are expected to interact with a cold front. Severe thunderstorms are likely by Wednesday, with drier and slightly cooler conditions following from Thursday through Sunday. The potential new storm, if formed, would be named Sara, marking the 18th named storm of the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season. The cold front is expected to dissipate Rafael's remnants by Thursday.
