Carl Bloch's lost painting Prometheus Unbound returns to Athens after 90 years
Carl Bloch's painting, Prometheus Unbound, has returned to public view in Athens after nearly 90 years. The artwork, which depicts the mythological figure Prometheus breaking free from chains, was last seen in 1932 and was recently rediscovered in a royal estate. The painting is on display at the Paul and Alexandra Canellopoulos Museum, attracting many visitors. It has been declared a protected monument by Greece's culture ministry and will be permanently exhibited at the restored palace of Tatoi later this year. Restoration efforts were extensive due to the painting's size and condition. It was found rolled up and required significant work to address mold and cracks before being rehung, impressing viewers with its grandeur.
