Carney defends Canada against Trump’s state comments
Mark Carney, Canada’s new Prime Minister, recently took a jab at U.S. President Donald Trump in a humorous video. He appeared with actor Mike Myers, who is also from Canada. The video, which lasts about 57 seconds, has gained over 4.4 million views. In the video, Myers asked Carney if there will always be a Canada. Carney responded, "There will always be a Canada." Both men wore Canadian hockey jerseys. Myers' jersey had "Never 51" printed on it, poking fun at Trump's idea of making Canada a U.S. state. The phrase "elbows up" was repeated in the video. This phrase is linked to famous Canadian hockey player Gordie Howe, known for his toughness on the rink. It has also been used on social media in response to Trump's trade policies. Despite Trump's tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum, Canada’s Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly expressed confidence in winning the trade conflict. She stated that Canada is the largest customer of the U.S. and believes that the resolution will come from American lawmakers themselves.
