Humanoid Origin, the studio founded by former Mass Effect director Casey Hudson, has canceled its untitled sci-fi game and will close due to a funding shortfall. The studio announced the decision after struggling to maintain operations. Hudson established Humanoid Origin in 2021, aiming to create a new character-driven sci-fi narrative. Despite initial progress and concept art shared in 2022, the studio could not overcome financial challenges. This closure adds to a difficult year for the gaming industry, with over 14,000 job losses reported in 2024, surpassing the total layoffs of 10,500 in 2023.
