CBS adjusts scoreboard timing during March Madness coverage
Dave Portnoy has influenced TV networks to change how they display scores during the NCAA tournament. He led a campaign for CBS and other networks to delay their virtual scoreboards during the first round of March Madness. Portnoy and fellow commentator Dan Katz pushed for this change during a live stream of the tournament. Katz expressed frustration on social media, asking networks to fix the scoreboard to avoid spoiling game results. Portnoy echoed Katz's concerns and tagged CBS, TruTV, TBS, and TNT Sports in his messages. He suggested adding a 30-second delay to the score updates to help fans enjoy watching multiple games without being spoiled. Shortly after their complaints, the networks seemed to respond. Katz noticed that the scoreboards were syncing better during their stream, meaning spectators would no longer see results before watching games. The first day of March Madness featured several games. Notable wins included Creighton defeating Louisville and Purdue besting High Point.
