Cebu authorities seize ₱500 million in illegal LPG canisters

Cebu City – Authorities in Cebu have seized 60 million illegal LPG canisters valued at around ₱500 million. This operation highlights the enforcement of Republic Act No. 11592, known as the LPG Industry Regulation Act. The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and the Police Regional Office 7 (PNP PRO7) worked together to secure and deactivate these dangerous products. The illegal canisters were found to be unlicensed and non-compliant with safety standards, posing risks to public safety. Those involved in the unauthorized refilling and distribution of these canisters will face legal consequences. The successful operation is a warning to illegal traders that violations of the LPG law will not be tolerated. Former LPGMA Partylist Representative Arnel Ty praised the efforts of PMGen Nicolas Torre III and Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan for their prompt action. He emphasized that the fight for RA 11592 was essential to protect lives and property from illegal activities. Ty also noted that LPGMA will continue to advocate for strong enforcement to safeguard the public and support legal businesses. The law mandates that only authorized businesses operate in the LPG industry and imposes substantial penalties on violators. With this latest seizure, LPGMA calls for greater monitoring, stricter penalties, and increased public awareness to combat illegal LPG operations nationwide.
