Cebu City rewards CVIRAA medalists with cash incentives

Cebu City Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia announced cash rewards for local athletes who won medals at the 2025 Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) meet. The event took place in Bayawan City and saw Cebu City Niños defend their title, winning 105 gold, 89 silver, and 73 bronze medals. During a speech on March 24, Garcia was surprised to learn that previous mayors had not given cash incentives to medalists. He engaged with the audience, asking if they had ever received such rewards. Attendees responded that they had not. This prompted Garcia to promise that cash incentives would be distributed soon. Individual medalists will receive ₱5,000 for gold, ₱3,000 for silver, and ₱2,000 for bronze. Teams winning gold will get ₱10,000, silver teams will receive ₱7,000, and bronze teams will be awarded ₱5,000. The mayor emphasized his commitment to support the athletes as they prepare for the upcoming Palarong Pambansa in Ilocos Norte. Garcia hopes these incentives will motivate the athletes and provide them with financial support. Cebu City's athletes are key to the region’s success, having placed fifth in the previous Palarong Pambansa held in Cebu.
