Cebu Classic loses to Quezon Huskers, 58-45
CEBU CITY, Philippines — The Cebu Classic lost to the Quezon Huskers 58-45 on March 17. The game took place at the Bataan People’s Center in Balanga, Bataan. Cebu started strong in their first game of the 2025 MPBL season, but they struggled to maintain that momentum. Cebu's offense faltered, with Quezon's tight defense forcing them into 21 turnovers. Rashawn McCarthy, a key player for Cebu, had a tough night. He only scored five points and had five turnovers, shooting just 2-of-10 from the field. Darell Manliguez was the standout for Cebu, scoring 10 points and contributing three rebounds and two assists. On the other hand, the Huskers had a balanced attack. Jason Opiso led Quezon with 13 points and added seven rebounds. Louelle Jay Gonzales supported him with 12 points, six rebounds, and five assists. Vincent Magbuhos came off the bench to score 10 points. Cebu managed to take a brief 9-8 lead in the first quarter, but Quezon regained control quickly. By halftime, the Huskers were up 26-19. Cebu fought back in the third quarter, narrowing the gap to just five points. However, Quezon pulled away in the fourth quarter, extending their lead significantly. Cebu will aim to bounce back in their next game against the Bataan Risers on March 20 at 4 PM in Manila.
