Central CA councilman charged with assault in Florida

Fowler City Councilmember Daniel Parra is facing an assault charge involving a Bay Area city councilwoman. This incident occurred at a conference in Florida. Xouhoa Bowen, the Vice Mayor of San Leandro, publicly named Parra during a city council meeting. She alleged that on November 13, 2024, he physically assaulted her while they were both at the National League of Cities annual conference in Tampa. Bowen filed a report with the Tampa Police, which has launched a criminal investigation into the matter. Parra, who has previously served as the president of the League of California Cities, has not commented on the specifics of the allegations. In addition to his role on the Fowler City Council, he is also the city manager of Orange Cove. Court documents show that Parra has been charged with battery related to this incident. His attorney stated that Parra is innocent and they will prove it. Parra is scheduled to appear in court in Tampa on March 31.
