Central Railway trials speed sensing system at Bhor Ghat

Central Railway (CR) has begun testing a new speed sensing system at Bhor Ghat. This trial aims to help trains traveling from Pune to Mumbai maintain their speed without stopping. The system uses speed sensing devices installed on tracks near Thakurwadi and Jambrung cabins. It is designed to reduce delays as trains navigate the steep downhill slope of Bhor Ghat. Currently, many passenger trains must slow down and sometimes stop, which can add 4 to 5 minutes to their travel time. The new technology aims to change that by automatically regulating train speeds. A team from Lucknow’s Research Design and Standards Organisation will assess the trial results. They will then submit a report to CR headquarters before the system is fully implemented. This new approach will improve travel efficiency, particularly during the monsoon season when rail authorities must be extra cautious. “The new system will be put in place at the Bhor Ghat section soon,” said Swapnil Neela, CR's chief public relations officer.
