Chandigarh cracks down on parking lot fee violations

The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation (MC) has started a crackdown on parking lot violations. This move comes after a surprise inspection by the municipal commissioner, Amit Kumar. He discovered issues at a parking site in Sector 17 and ordered the suspension of a junior engineer for not following parking fee rules. On Friday, the MC's engineering team, led by chief engineer Sanjay Arora, conducted surprise checks at parking areas near Kiran Cinema in Sector 22 and by the Sector 17 bus stand. This was part of the effort to ensure that all parking operations comply with regulations. The commissioner has instructed all officials managing the paid parking sites to strictly follow parking fee rules. He warned that any officer who neglects their duties will face serious consequences. The MC has been managing the parking lots since January 2023, when the contracts with private companies ended. Since then, many complaints about parking fee violations have been reported.
