Chandigarh increases fees for birth and death registrations

timesofindia.indiatimes.com

The Chandigarh administration has updated its rules for registering births and deaths. The new rules, known as the Chandigarh Registration of Birth and Death Amendment Rules 2025, require more approvals for certain registrations. Under the revised rules, fees for registration services have increased. For example, some services that used to cost Rs 2 will now cost Rs 20. The fee for registering a birth or death has also risen from Rs 5 to Rs 50. If a birth or death is reported to the registrar after 30 days but within one year, special approval is needed from the district registrar or their appointed representative. In this case, a late fee of Rs 50 will apply, up from Rs 20. Required documents must be submitted online or with Form 14, and these must be self-attested. For reports made after one year, registration will only happen with permission from the district magistrate or an authorized executive magistrate. They must be from the same area where the event occurred. The late fee in these situations has also increased, rising to Rs 100 from Rs 60.
