Chandigarh Police arrest five in gangster-drug bust
Chandigarh Police have broken up a major gang involved in drug trafficking and illegal arms. Five suspects were arrested during the operation. Police found a significant amount of heroin, cash, and firearms during their investigation. The police seized 190 grams of heroin and nearly ₹5 lakh in drug money. They also recovered three pistols, two live cartridges, and three vehicles, including a luxury Toyota Fortuner. The suspects linked to notorious gangs have been arrested in the tri-city region. Superintendent of Police Geetanjali Khandelwal stated that three of the accused have connections to gangs led by criminals Lawrence Bishnoi, Raju Basodi, and Vakant Garg. The police operation started when they stopped a suspect named Narinder Kumar near a school. He admitted to getting drugs from another suspect, Deepak Thapa. Following this lead, police arrested Thapa, who had a criminal background, including serious charges. They found a large amount of cash and a firearm at his home. Further investigations led to more arrests, including Rajinder Singh, who was also armed and had bought a luxury vehicle with drug money. Another suspect, Dharmender Singh, was apprehended in Ludhiana. Police discovered more heroin and cash on him. Dharmender was wanted for a high-profile murder and had gone to great lengths to avoid capture. Finally, police arrested another accused, Rahul, who was found with a homemade firearm. He is suspected of supplying weapons to a gangster involved in a political assassination, for which there is a bounty on the gangster's head.
