Chandra Arya's nomination revoked in Ottawa riding
Liberal MP Chandra Arya has announced that his nomination to run again in his Ottawa riding has been revoked. Arya, who has served as the representative for Nepean since 2015, received the news just days before an expected election call. The decision follows the party's earlier refusal to accept Arya as a candidate for the leadership role. National campaign director Andrew Bevan informed him in a letter that new information led to the recommendation to revoke his candidate status. Bevan did not provide details about this new information. In response, Arya expressed disappointment but stated that serving as an MP was his greatest responsibility. He emphasized his honor in representing the people of Nepean and all Canadians. With Arya's removal, a seat in Ottawa opens up for potential candidates. Prime Minister Mark Carney has not yet declared which riding he will contest. Speculation includes Edmonton, where he grew up, and Toronto, a city where the Liberals perform well. An election is expected to be called soon, possibly for late April or early May.
