Chandrapur police arrest gang selling counterfeit gold
Chandrapur police have arrested four people involved in a gang that sold fake gold to jewellers and traders. The arrests came after a careful operation by the local crime branch (LCB). Police seized more than 1.3 kilograms of counterfeit gold during the investigation. The police received intelligence about the gang targeting local jewellers. They alerted the jewellers and conducted a search in business areas. A jeweller from Jaya Collection in Chhota Bazar became suspicious when the gang approached him, claiming to sell genuine gold. The suspects showed him small gold beads and offered over 1 kilogram of gold for Rs20 lakh. The jeweller informed the police, who set up a trap and caught the suspects. Those arrested include individuals from various states such as Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. After searching their belongings, authorities found four genuine gold beads worth Rs15,000, and a fake gold chain valued at only Rs1,000. They also took two mobile phones. The total value of the seized items is about Rs18,000. The arrested suspects face fraud charges at the Chandrapur City police station.
