X-Force #9, written by Geoffrey Thorne and illustrated by Marcus To, continues the storyline “X-Manhunt.” This latest chapter focuses on Charles Xavier trying to escape from Graymalkin Prison. His goal is to save his daughter, but this puts him in conflict with different teams of X-Men, including those led by Rogue and Cyclops, as well as X-Factor. In the previous issue, X-Factor #8, tension rose between Cyclops and Havok just before Xavier explained his reasons for being in Utopia. However, just as Xavier reveals his intentions, a mysterious enemy takes him away. This issue of X-Force reveals that there is another party involved in Xavier's mission, apart from the X-Men and governmental agents. While Cyclops and Havok fight, Xavier manages to contact Sage telepathically. He requests help escaping Utopia. Sage reaches out to an unexpected ally: John Wraith, also known as Kestrel, who hasn’t appeared in a long time. With Wraith’s assistance, Sage manages to outsmart both the X-Men and X-Factor. John Wraith has a storied past as part of the Weapon X program. He was an explosives expert and a secret agent before joining. Wraith is known for his stealth and paranoia, often hiding his teleportation powers from others. Though he worked with Wolverine and other mutants, many were unaware of his abilities until much later. Wraith's return is significant, especially given the current events in other related storylines. Marvel is hinting that Wraith's involvement could connect to larger themes about the Weapon X program, especially with changes hinted at in the upcoming Wolverine #400. X-Force #9 is now available in stores, promising more twists and turns in the storyline.
