Charlotte enforces local burn ban for wildfire safety
The Charlotte Fire Marshal’s Office announced a local burn ban on Sunday night. This ban is part of a larger statewide ban from the North Carolina Forest Service, which began Friday. The goal is to reduce the risk of wildfires in the area. The local ban prohibits all types of burning in Charlotte. This includes recreational fires, bonfires, fire pits, and warming fires. It also covers any burning within 100 feet of homes. Charlotte Fire Marshal Kevin Miller emphasized the need for local restrictions to ensure safety. Only cooking fires are allowed under strict conditions. They must be in a grill or outdoor cooking device, monitored at all times, and have a way to put them out quickly. Violating the burn ban can lead to fines and legal fees. The Fire Marshal's Office invites anyone with questions to call 704-336-2101.
