Chasers' nicknames on ITV's The Chase explained
The popular ITV quiz show "The Chase" has made its cast members famous since it began in 2009. The Chasers—Anne Hegerty, Jenny Ryan, Shaun Wallace, Mark Labbett, Paul Sinha, and Darragh Ennis—each have unique nicknames that reflect their personalities. Jenny Ryan, known as "The Vixen," originally faced the nickname "The Cougar." She rejected it, feeling it was inappropriate. With a striking beehive hairstyle, she said her hair’s red color reminded her of a fox. Bradley Walsh, the show's host, helped her choose the final nickname. Shaun Wallace was initially called "The Legal Eagle" because of his legal background. However, he accepted the nickname "The Dark Destroyer," which reflects his intelligence. He expressed concern about sharing a nickname with a former boxer but embraced the title for its cleverness. Mark Labbett, towering at 6 feet 6 inches, is known as "The Beast." This name comes partly from his height and also the French meaning of his surname. Paul Sinha explained that Mark's interaction style makes contestants nervous, reinforcing his beastly reputation. Anne Hegerty, who considered being called "The Headmistress," decided on "The Governess" instead. She believed the latter was a better fit and felt it carried a more independent connotation. She also humorously mentioned being called "Frosty Knickers" by Bradley for her reserved demeanor. Paul's nickname is a play on his last name, and he has also been called "The Smiling Assassin." Darragh Ennis rejected "The Professor" for its prestige, preferring "The Menace," which is fun and connects to a comic character. These nicknames have become a beloved part of The Chase, adding to the show's charm and appeal.
