Chaturvedi demands disqualification of Allahabad HC judge
Shiv Sena UBT MP Priyanka Chaturvedi has called for the disqualification of Allahabad High Court Judge Justice Ram Manohar Narayan Mishra. She is upset about a recent ruling where the court stated that grabbing a woman's breast and breaking the string of her 'pyjami' does not qualify as rape. Chaturvedi wrote to Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna, arguing that this decision is misguided. The Allahabad High Court had ruled that such actions are considered assault rather than rape, which she finds unacceptable. The ruling followed a petition by two individuals challenging a previous order by a Special Judge in Kasganj. The judge had summoned them under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code, which deals with rape. In her letter, Chaturvedi urged that the case be moved to the Supreme Court to seek justice for the victim and her family. She also suggested that judges should undergo regular training to ensure more sensitive rulings in the future.
