Check National Insurance records before April deadline
Money expert Martin Lewis is advising people aged 40 to 73 to check their National Insurance records before an April deadline. Missing years can be bought back, potentially adding up to £100,000 to state pension payouts over a lifetime. Currently, 13 years of National Insurance records from 2006 to 2019 can be purchased. After April, these years will no longer be available for buyback, making this a crucial time for those with gaps in their records. To check for missing years, individuals can visit gov.uk and review their National Insurance Record. Buying a missing year costs about £800, which can lead to significant increases in annual pension payments.
