Cheltenham Festival honors late jockey Michael O'Sullivan
Michael O'Sullivan, a young jockey, tragically died after a racing accident on February 6. He was airlifted to the hospital but passed away ten days later. O'Sullivan was seen as a rising star in National Hunt racing. At the 2025 Cheltenham Festival, O'Sullivan will be honored with the opening race renamed The Michael O’Sullivan Supreme Novices’ Hurdle. His family expressed gratitude for the recognition of his talent and impact on others. O'Sullivan had notable success, winning two races at the 2023 Cheltenham Festival. His victories included the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle and the Boodles Juvenile Handicap Hurdle. Both winning horses are expected to compete again this year.
