Chennai Metro Rail trains to get high-beam lights
Chennai Metro Rail is set to enhance safety on its trains by adding high-beam lights. This decision comes after a minor derailment incident last December, where a train wheel came off the track due to sand and water entering the tunnel. Officials believe that these new lights will allow train operators to better see their path, especially in tunnels. Currently, trains have four lights that can illuminate about 100 meters. The new high-beam lights will offer improved visibility, lighting up to 150 meters. Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) expects this upgrade to improve safety for both passengers and operators. There have been instances where operators avoided accidents by stopping trains in time when objects were found on the tracks. The Metro has 52 trains operating on its 54-kilometer network, and the installation of high-beam lights is expected to be completed by August. The procurement of the new lights has already begun, and they should be installed within two months.
