Chennai police launch QR code for fan safety

Chennai police have launched the “Chennai Singam IPL QR Code” system to improve safety for fans at Chepauk stadium during Indian Premier League (IPL) matches. This system allows spectators to quickly report any security concerns they may have while at the venue. The QR codes are placed in several locations around the stadium. When fans scan the code, they can enter their seat number, stand, and mobile number. This feature also lets them upload images of anyone causing a threat, especially in cases of harassment. Once a report is made, a police team at the event will swiftly respond using the location provided by the user. The initiative aims to ensure a safer environment for the numerous cricket fans expected to attend the matches. The IPL season at Chepauk started on Sunday, featuring a game between CSK and Mumbai Indians. There are seven matches scheduled in Chennai until mid-May. Police officials noted that, although there had been no prior reports of harassment, this new system provides a precautionary measure to enhance fan safety. On Sunday, large crowds were seen in the Triplicane and Chepauk areas, leading to traffic management strategies such as diversions and parking restrictions. These measures were in effect from 5 PM to 11 PM on nearby roads.
