Chennai tourism fair attracts over 550,000 visitors
Chennai hosted the 49th India Tourism and Industrial Fair 2025, which attracted over 550,000 visitors during its 72-day run. The event was organized by the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation and took place at Island Grounds, starting on January 6 and concluding on March 23. The fair featured 41 stalls from state governments and two from the Union government, along with various private and small business setups. Many attendees appreciated the government exhibits, which highlighted various development initiatives. In total, the fair included 110 small business shops, 30 private stalls, and over 32 amusement rides. Tourism Minister R. Rajendran noted that the event created significant employment opportunities. Around 10,000 people were directly involved, with an additional 30,000 benefiting indirectly. The fair generated a total revenue of 6.82 crore rupees from ticket sales and rental fees. Food stalls serving local specialties like Delhi appalam, bajji, ice cream, and sugarcane juice were popular with visitors. The spacious amusement zone, covering 80,000 square feet, featured exciting rides such as the tsunami, giant wheel, and techno jump. During the closing ceremony, Rajendran and other ministers awarded prizes to the best-performing government stalls, marking a successful conclusion to the fair.
