Cheshire defeats Amity, advances to Division II final
Cheshire's high school ice hockey team will play in the state championship again after defeating Amity 2-0 in the Division II semifinals. The game was held at Quinnipiac's M&T Arena on Tuesday night. Junior goalie Ryan Miller played a key role in the victory, making 34 saves. Last year, he helped Cheshire win its first hockey title in 15 years during the semifinals against the same opponent. Coach Anthony Giust praised Miller's performance, saying he kept the team in the game. Cheshire scored their first goal in the second period, thanks to sophomore Mark Laskin. The second goal came from Zachary Hooper, who scored into an empty net with less than a minute left in the game. Despite losing in shot count and facing tough competition, Cheshire managed to secure the win. This year, they will face either North Haven or East Haven Co-op in the championship match, scheduled for Saturday or Sunday. Miller noted that the team has a tough rivalry with Amity, who had previously beaten them in another game this season. Cheshire's hockey program celebrated its 50th season last year, ending with an impressive record of 24-1-1 after winning the championship. Miller expressed a desire to win another title, highlighting the hard work he put in during the offseason.
