The Chhattisgarh government is planning to introduce a new policy that will double the compensation for families of police informers killed in Maoist attacks. The compensation will increase from ₹ 5 lakh to ₹ 10 lakh. This new policy is aimed at supporting the families of informers, who often include former Maoists helping the police in anti-Maoist operations in the Bastar region. The policy, although not yet officially announced, is expected to provide benefits to all victims of Maoist violence since the state was formed in 2000. This includes the families of victims, individuals with permanent disabilities, and surrendered Maoists. Victims from other states affected by Maoist actions in Chhattisgarh will also be eligible for assistance. Compensation will be offered to victims for property damage as well. Aid for damaged homes has increased significantly. Compensation for destroyed farming and construction machinery will now be up to ₹ 60,000 to ₹ 8 lakh, depending on the loss. Families of those murdered or severely injured will receive land or financial grants of ₹ 4 lakh for rural areas and ₹ 8 lakh for urban areas. The policy will also support children from victim families. They will receive scholarships, hostel accommodation, and reserved seats in private schools. Students can get ₹ 25,000 yearly for technical and vocational education. Children who have lost both parents to violence are guaranteed spots in residential schools. To encourage Maoists to surrender, the policy offers financial incentives. Those who surrender will receive ₹ 50,000, with additional rewards based on the type and quantity of weapons handed over. There is also support for women affected by conflict, including loans and prioritizing them for urban business opportunities. Private companies employing surrendered Maoists or victims’ families may receive wage subsidies for up to five years. The policy aims to ensure all affected families have access to essential services like healthcare and electricity.
