Chhota Rajan acquitted in 2011 Maharashtra shooting case
A special court in Mumbai has acquitted gangster Chhota Rajan in a 2011 shooting case. The court ruled that there was not enough evidence to prove Rajan's involvement in the murder of a bodyguard for Iqbal Kaskar, the brother of wanted criminal Dawood Ibrahim. The incident took place on May 17, 2011, when two gunmen attacked Kaskar's home, killing his bodyguard Arif Abubakar Sayyad. Police claimed the shooting was ordered by Rajan to assert dominance over Ibrahim's gang. The two gunmen were arrested, and the case was investigated by the crime branch. In addition to Rajan, five others were arrested. Some were accused of providing weapons and arranging finances for the crime. A previous court had convicted three of these accomplices, sentencing them to life in prison. However, that court did not establish any link between Rajan and the organized crime aspect of the case. After the verdict, Rajan's lawyer stated that he still faces five other cases, with two currently paused by the high court.
