Chicago student earns scholarship to join Auburn University equestrian team

Emerson Ricketts, a senior at Jones College Prep in Chicago, has received a scholarship to join the equestrian team at Auburn University. She is one of the few students of color in competitive horse riding, a sport where Black riders represent only 0.5% of participants. Ricketts has been passionate about horses since age five and has achieved national titles in various competitions. Her parents have supported her journey, addressing challenges positively and encouraging her to pursue her dreams. At Auburn, Ricketts plans to study equine sciences and aims to become a veterinarian. She encourages other girls to chase their dreams, regardless of representation in their chosen fields.
