Chicopee secures $100,000 grant for Szot Park upgrades
Chicopee has received a $100,000 state grant to support the second phase of improvements at Szot Park. This funding will aid in the design and engineering of replacing an outdated culvert on Front Street and restoring the Abbey Brook stream. The first phase of the project is nearing completion, which involves "daylighting" the stream that currently runs underground. The existing culvert, built in the 1950s, is inadequate for modern water flow and storm conditions. The second phase will begin after approval from the City Council. The project involves collaboration among several city departments and state agencies, with a total of $2.1 million awarded to 17 similar projects across Massachusetts.
