Chie Hayakawa partners with Indonesia's KawanKawan Media for "Renoir."
Japanese director Chie Hayakawa, known for her film "Plan 75," has added KawanKawan Media as a co-production partner for her new movie "Renoir." This announcement was made at the Hong Kong FilMart. KawanKawan Media, based in Indonesia, is teaming up with Japan's Loaded Films, with producers Eiko Mizuno-Gray and Jason Gray. "Renoir" tells the story of an 11-year-old girl named Fuki. Set during Japan's late 1980s bubble economy, Fuki struggles with a terminally ill father and a stressed mother while meeting adults who face their own challenges. The film has an international production team that includes collaborators from Japan, France, Singapore, and the Philippines. KawanKawan Media is known for successful films like "Autobiography" and "Tiger Stripes." Yulia Evina Bhara, the founder of KawanKawan, expressed excitement about the project, believing that its strong story will appeal to audiences globally, especially in Indonesia. The cast includes young actress Yui Suzuki as Fuki, along with Hikari Ishida and Lily Franky. "Renoir" has already secured Goodfellas for world sales rights and will be presented at the Cannes Film Market. Mizuno-Gray noted that this collaboration will help reach audiences across Southeast Asia. Other Philippine production companies, Daluyong Studios and Nathan Studios, are also involved in the project.
