Chief Justice advocates equal justice access in Jharkhand
Ranchi: Chief Justice MS Ramchandra Rao of the Jharkhand High Court emphasized the need for equal access to justice for everyone on Sunday. He stated that legal services must support all groups in their quest for justice. Justice Ramchandra highlighted the importance of district legal services authorities (DLSAs) as key points for providing legal assistance. He noted that people in even the most remote areas should be able to access courts easily, regardless of their financial situation. Justice SN Prasad of the High Court requested that judges, who lead the DLSAs, be careful when making remand decisions for minor offenses. He encouraged them to avoid using a mechanical approach to these cases. The Chief Justice praised the Jharkhand State Legal Services Authority for achieving an impressive disposal rate of 99.49 percent during the 4th National Lok Adalat in 2024. Moreover, Justice Ramchandra opened two new legal aid clinics (LACs) at Amity Law School and the Institute of Legal Studies at Ranchi University. This increases the total number of LACs in the state to 1,431.
