Child fends off abductor attempt in New Jersey
A child reported a near-abduction while walking to school in Berlin Township, New Jersey, on Wednesday morning. The incident occurred at around 8:45 a.m. near Washington and Grove avenues. The 8-year-old girl told police that a man approached her from behind and attempted to take her. Fortunately, the girl was able to fight off the man. She claimed she may have stabbed him with a pencil she was carrying, which could have caused him a facial injury. She did not suffer any injuries during the encounter. Residents in the area expressed shock at the incident. Angel Martinez, a local resident, said it was surprising for the neighborhood. Noah Rodriguez, another resident, shared his concern for safety, especially since he has a young child. In response to the incident, the school district's superintendent informed parents that security measures were put in place. After-school activities were canceled to ensure safety. There will be an increased police presence in the area throughout the week. Authorities are urging anyone who may have witnessed anything suspicious to contact them.
