China and Iran strengthen ties, prompting potential US backlash
China and Iran are strengthening their ties, which may lead to a stronger reaction from the United States regarding Iran's nuclear program. Experts believe that China's recent talks with Iran and Russia will increase pressure from Washington. China plans to continue multilateral negotiations about the nuclear issue. These talks help China establish itself as an important mediator in the Middle East and expand its influence in the region. During the meeting in Beijing on March 14, China, Iran, and Russia expressed their commitment to preventing nuclear weapons and criticized the use of sanctions or military threats. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi proposed a five-point plan to address Iran's nuclear issues. This plan includes support for the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a nuclear deal the US withdrew from in 2018 under President Donald Trump. Iran responded positively to these talks. In contrast, Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, quickly rejected an offer from Trump for direct talks. Khamenei stated that Tehran would not be coerced into negotiations, especially after Trump's threat that the US could use military force if Iran refused to engage.
